The soft velvet couches in the lounge area downstairs and on the balcony give this midsize venue an elegant touch. The sound is sometimes a bit iffy, but Irving Plaza is the place to catch bigger indie bands like Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, and Guided by Voices. Because of its size, Irving Plaza remains a mainstay in the New York rock scene.
